Why and how can it be free?

We built boat.life because we needed it ourselves, and we want every boat owner to have a great home for their boat. Adding, managing, viewing and controlling your boat, your data and your log is free — and will stay free, forever. To keep the lights on we offer an optional AI subscription that lets you actually talk to all your content — your invoices, manuals, support posts and maintenance history — with answers grounded in your own documents. We hope enough people find that useful to subscribe, but it's entirely up to you. The core boat record is yours, free, no card required.

Yes. Your boat page is private by default. You decide who can see it — only you, your friends, or the whole world.

Can I add more than one boat?

Absolutely. Create as many boat pages as you like, all for free.

Can I share my boat page with others?

Yes. You can keep it private, share it with accepted friends, or make it public with a simple link.

How does sharing work? What data is shared?

You are always in control of what is shared. Public data — like your boat's name, photos, and basic specs — can be shown to the world if you choose to make your page public. Private data such as repairs, costs, equipment, documents, and personal notes stays hidden from everyone except people you explicitly trust. Even then, private sections are only visible to users with an Editor role; viewers you add as Friends only see the public parts. You decide the role for each person you invite.

What roles can I give to people I share my boat with?

Each boat has three roles. Owner — full control, can edit everything and manage who has access. Editor — can view and edit all sections, but cannot change sharing settings or delete the boat. Friend — can view the public parts of the boat, but cannot see private sections like repairs, costs, or documents, and cannot make any changes. This way your sensitive data stays safe even when you share your boat page.

Can I connect with other boat owners?

Yes! You can find other boat owners, send friend requests, and message each other. Share knowledge about repairs, discover new places, and learn from each other's experiences. It's like a marina lounge, but digital.

How much storage do I get?

Every account gets 250 MB of free file storage for photos, documents, and receipts. For most boat owners that is plenty to keep going for a long, long time. The limit isn't there to hold you back — it just protects us from runaway costs so we can keep the core product free forever. If you ever bump into the ceiling, you can upgrade for more space whenever you need it.

Our story

From boat owners' need to a whole boating community.

We built boat.life because we needed it ourselves. We've spent years on the water, and like every boat owner we know the feeling — the beautiful sails, the perfect sunsets, and then that moment when something makes a sound you don't recognise.

We wanted a single place for our boats, our families, the places we visit and the trips we take. Maintenance logs, things to bring back and forth, quick notes so nothing gets forgotten. And we wanted to remember it all — not just the specs, but the stories, the people, the moments that make a boat a life.

The community part grew naturally. Once friends came in, we wanted to find others nearby, people in the same harbour, people with the same boat model, someone who had already solved that weird engine problem. Boating is very much about helping each other, and we try to bring that together here.

What started as a personal tool has become a home for your boating life. Your boats and your places at the core — your family, your friends, the harbours and the neighbours who help each other out on the water. A place to remember, to connect, to belong. Always there when you need them.
